Formaldehyde & VOC Removal Process

Step 1 – On-Site Air Quality Assessment

Our Air Quality Specialist will be on-site to identify potential sources of Formaldehyde and VOCs, such as furniture, paints, flooring, adhesives, carpets, and insulating materials.

An Air Quality Meter would be used to test the levels of Formaldehyde and VOCs present in your home or office.

Advice would be given on how Air Pro can help remove these harmful gases, and how to maintain a healthy indoor air quality.

Step 2 – Pre-Treatment Preparation

It is important to cover electrical appliances such as televisions, refrigerators, as well as worthy collections such as art pieces and antiques. This provides assurance to the client that we will focus on the fixtures that are producing the formaldehyde.

Drawers, cabinets, and other VOC-prone items would be removed to ensure all areas are covered during the treatment process.

Step 3 – Formaldehyde & VOC Removal

We begin the removal process here with an Ultra-Low Volume (ULV) misting of the formaldehyde-removal chemical. The ultra fine mist helps to ensure all surfaces, cracks and crevices, and hard-to-reach areas are fully covered.

Our preferred choice of chemical is non-toxic, non-corrosive, non-abrasive, child-friendly, pet-friendly, and eco-friendly.

2 to 3 layers of ULV misting will be performed to ensure that Formaldehyde and VOCs are removed from your home/office to a safe and healthy level.

Step 4 – Post Treatment Assessment

After the Formaldehyde and VOCs are removed, our specialist would conduct an Air Quality Assessment. Air Quality readings would be recorded to show pre and post treatment Formaldehyde and VOC levels.

Post Treatment advice and recommendations are given on how to maintain a healthy and safe indoor air quality for your home or office.

Formaldehyde Health Risks

VOC & Formaldehyde – What are they?

Formaldehyde is a colorless, flammable chemical that is produced industrially and primarily used in building materials like plywood and wood-pressed products. Its presence is a distinct strong pungent smell which is very apparent at the end of manufacturing or renovation works. Formaldehyde is also commonly found in fungicide, germicide, disinfectants, and is combustion product found in tobacco smoke.

Formaldehyde exposure

We are exposed to formaldehyde in environments where building works take place. Newly renovated homes with new furniture, paint, flooring and carpentry contain high levels of formaldehyde. Work environments like heavy industrial properties, laboratories and even health care settings reek of this harmful chemical.

Formaldehyde is inhaled from these environments or by absorbing liquids containing them through the skin.

They typically last up to 2 years so they may still be present even though you cannot smell them.

 Health risks

Exposure to formaldehyde causes irritation to the skin, eyes, throat and lungs. Repeated exposure may even lead to some types of cancer. People with existing and past conditions such as asthma may face relapse and worsening if there is constant exposure to formaldehyde.

Measure of quality air in your home and work place

Formaldehyde and VOCs (Volatile Organic Compounds) can only be measured thorough specialized meters. The industry guidelines suggest an ideal range of 0.01 – 0.0125 mg/m3 for formaldehyde levels. Obvious irritation to the body is felt when the levels are above 0.2 mg/m3.
